Accessibility Statement

Last updated: April 2026

Ono Academic College treats accessibility as a core value. We are committed to making our digital services available to the widest possible audience — including people with disabilities — while upholding equality, human dignity and freedom of choice. This statement applies to pages.ono.ac.il, the landing-page site used for program pages, events and campaigns.

1. Legal framework

This site is built and maintained in accordance with:

  • Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998 (Israel)
  • Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (Service Accessibility), 5773-2013, Chapter E — Internet Services
  • Israeli Standard SI 5568, conformance level AA
  • W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, conformance level AA
  • GDPR and CCPA where applicable — in particular the prohibition on discrimination when exercising data-subject rights

2. What has been made accessible

The site was designed and built to work well with assistive technologies. Among other things:

  • Standards-compliant semantic HTML5 (headings, lists, landmark regions) for correct screen-reader traversal
  • Full keyboard navigation — every interactive element is reachable via Tab and activatable via Enter or Space
  • Visible focus indicator on every interactive element
  • Meaningful alternative text (alt) on informative images
  • aria-label and screen-reader-only text on icon-only buttons
  • Text-to-background contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text (3:1 for large text), as required by WCAG 2.1 SC 1.4.3
  • Full bidirectional support — Hebrew and Arabic (RTL) alongside English (LTR)
  • Responsive layout from mobile phones through wide desktops
  • "Skip to main content" mechanism via keyboard

3. The accessibility widget

A blue wheelchair icon () appears in the lower-left corner of every page. Clicking it opens a panel with the following tools:

  • Font size — increase or decrease from 80% to 150% of the default
  • High contrast — black background with white text for users with low vision
  • Grayscale — removes color for users with color sensitivity or color blindness
  • Highlight links — adds underlines and outlined borders to every link
  • Readable font — switches to a simple sans-serif font (helpful for dyslexic readers)
  • Reset — fully restores default settings

Preferences are stored in the user's browser and re-applied automatically on return visits. The widget performs cosmetic changes only — it never hides content or disables functionality.

4. Known limitations

Despite our efforts, the following items are not yet fully accessible. We are actively working on them:

  • Embedded YouTube videos — captions depend on the original upload. Videos without captions will not display them. We are mapping and back-filling captions for core videos.
  • Third-party PDFs — reference documents produced externally may not meet all accessibility requirements. An accessible version can be requested from the accessibility coordinator.
  • Interactive maps (Google Maps) — textual addresses are always available next to the map, but map controls themselves depend on Google's accessibility features.

5. Reporting an accessibility issue

Encountered an accessibility barrier? Have a suggestion? Please reach out — we respond as quickly as possible, and in any case within 14 business days:

6. Date of this statement

This statement reflects the actual accessibility status of the site as of April 2026. The site has been tested by the development team using automated tools, manual screen-reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver), keyboard navigation and contrast checks.

7. Campus accessibility

Information about physical accessibility on Ono Academic College campuses (accessible restrooms, disabled parking, elevators, hearing-loop systems and quiet examination rooms) is available in the main institutional accessibility statement at www.ono.ac.il/eng/accessibility.
