About the Program
Discover Israel’s Only Fully English-Taught M.A. in Visual Art Therapy
For over 40 years, Ono's School of Society and the Arts has been training art therapists in Israel. Thousands of therapists have studied with us, and many of our leading graduates now return as supervisors and lecturers. Today, we bring this experience to the only M.A. in Visual Art Therapy in Israel taught in English.
The program integrates artistic media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, with psychological theory and therapeutic practice. Students learn to use creative processes and verbal reflection to support emotional expression, strengthen resilience, and help clients navigate complex life experiences.

Before You Apply
In accordance with the requirements established by Israel’s Ministry of Health and Council for Higher Education, applicants to the M.A. in Art Therapy must meet the following admission criteria:
A recognized bachelor’s degree in any field. The threshold grade for the degree is 80.
As part of the admissions process, candidates must provide proof of prior psychology coursework.
Applicants are required to complete nine psychology prerequisite courses (a minimum passing grade of 80 is required for each course).
Introduction to psychology – 2 credits
Developmental psychology – 4 credits
Psychopathology – 4 credits
Personality theories – 2 credits
Research methods – 2 credits
Psychophysiology – 2 credits
Statistics – 2 credits
Applicants who do not meet the above academic prerequisites may complete missing courses at Ono.
Supplementation for those who are not from the field of the arts:
300 hours of formal training in visual arts, including painting, drawing, and sculpting, from a recognized institution.
200 hours of artwork in a variety of creative materials (60 hours in each modality will be recognized) and submitting a portfolio of 15 art works in the field.
The candidate will be invited for an interview with the Head of the Program.
The candidate is required to submit three references from individuals who know them in an academic or professional capacity.
